Rise and shine!


I've started a new morning routine. While I've tried this in the past without much luck, this seems to be sticking. Here's how it goes, the alarm rings at 5:25, I stumble over to throw it against the wall jump brightly out of bed with a smile on my face and head for the coffeemaker (thank goodness for automatic brewing). Having a bit of quiet time in the morning before the kids start waking up is so nice. I take my coffee and book outside and watch the sun come up. Right now I'm reading Michael Pollan's In Defense of Food. It's really good. If you're looking for a new book, I'd suggest checking this one out. Talk about a peaceful way to start the day. Doesn't get much better in my opinion.
I think that's the reason this is working for me, I'm enjoying it. While the first few minutes are rough, once I'm up and moving it's all good.
Next thing to work on is getting rid of the coffee. I've decided I'm going to start transitioning to green tea. I ♥ my coffee, but I'd like to be able to start my day without the jolt. We'll see how that goes.
School starts again next week so I'm working to get this down so I'm not running around like a crazy person trying to get out the door in the morning. I like calm mornings and this seems to be the first step...
What's your morning routine like? Do you take time to relax and wake up or are you running from the time your feet hit the floor?

I do not like mornings! I so wish I had the motivation to rise early. I know I could get tons done with kiddos still sleeping but...it just doesn't work for me. Could have something to do with the fact that I don't go to bed until after midnight! Kuddos to you though! I may have to suck it up and rearrange my schedule and give it a whirl...

I'm not sure which is better sleeping a little bit more or getting up early for me time... I am addicted to coffee. Tea just isn't the same. Trust me I've literally got about 20 different boxes in my cupboard. :(

Congratulations on your epic weight loss! So fantastic. I am totally in awe of your morning routine, albeit a bit jealous. I am the farthest thing from a morning person. I co-sleep and get woken up much too early from my little one. That said, I really like your morning routine and think I'll adopt a similar one once he's a bit older. OH! And if you're not allergic to grains, try drinking Inca. It's a barley tea (I realize this sounds disgusting). My mom has been sloooowly replacing her coffee and is now down to 1/8 cup per day, with 7/8 Inca. She started it on the reverse.

I never used to be a morning person. Ever. In fact I pretty much timed that I could sleep until 8:15 and still get to my desk at work at 8:45!

But now I LOVE my morning - I get up around 6:00 or 6:30 - drink coffee, blog, read the news - the house is quiet and its all about ME!
