Old Goals....New Goals

Here's the update on the goal situation. Today was goal day. I ran my 5K this morning, finishing time- 31:04. Right on target as the goal was to finish under 31:30. The other goal I wanted to hit was for weight. I stepped on the scale this morning and what did I see? Bingo on the weight...exactly 190. Yay! Yay! Yay!
So, now for the new goals. You might be saying....what?! she just finished the first set! I know myself though. I need to have something to keep the momentum going. So, here we go.
Next month on the 11th I found a 10K run (that's 6.2 miles). Right now, I don't have a finish time set, just finishing it and running the whole thing is the goal. And now, a goal weight. I want to be somewhat ambitious for this month, especially if I'm going to be running and training for a 10K. I think 10 lbs is a good place to start. I can always update it.
Anyway, I felt really good running today. Yesterday I slipped into a pair of pants so comfortably it wasn't even funny. What an awesome feeling that was! The slogan for the race this morning was "Keep Moving Forward"....perfect sentiment I think!

Doin' the "Happy Dance"

So, at this point I've lost 16 lbs. I'm so stoked! Yesterday I went through the closet and dumped all the maternity clothes. That felt sooo good. I know, Riley is 9 months old, and I should've gotten rid of them a while ago, but most of my other clothes were still too tight. Not anymore. I have a stack of pants that, while they may still be on the snug side, I can wear! How exciting is that?! I have been sticking to a pretty basic routine, but I find that basic is better for me. The jogging and walking that I've been doing is really helping to tone my legs, as is the yoga. I just have to say, I LOVE doing yoga! If you have never tried it, you should give it a shot. It's alot harder than it seems, and gives you great tone and flexibility. Something else I love, pilates. I need to find the time to slip it back into my daily schedule because my big trouble area is my tummy and that worked so well for me after Lily(aka baby #1) was born.
Anyhow, I'm looking forward to my 5K on Saturday. I'm feeling great, hope you are too, just thought I'd share....

New Goal

Well, I have to change my weight goal again. I hit my prior goal of 195 and I still have a week and a half till my 5K. I have 10 more days so I think 2-3lbs would be a good loss. Today I'm going to attempt the 3 mile run. I feel confident that I can jog the whole thing. I injured myself last week and haven't exercised a great deal in the past few days, but I think a little break was a good thing. It allowed my body a rest. Remember that you must listen to your body and rest when you need, and eat when you need.

*Update for anyone interested: I finished my 3 mile run today in 31:52! I didn't feel like I was gonna die at any point, and I had enough left to kick it in a little at the end. I don't know why I feel the need to kick it in, this isn't a competition. But I always feel better when I give it that extra oomph at the end*

Drop the CRAB...

We've all experienced those crabby days. When the kids just get on your last nerve and nothing hubby can say or do is right. Me, I find I'm at my crabbiest when I'm dieting or dealing with PMS. It finally hit me though that I need to make a concerted effort to drop the attitude. Dieting so I can lose weight should be a good thing, should make me feel happy and powerful and in control. Which, for the most part, it does. I'm feeling really good about the progress I'm making, my choices, my physical advancements. I just need to rein in the crabby momma that rears her ugly head from time to time...or maybe feed the crabby momma a healthy snack.
The point I'm trying to make, I need to evaluate myself emotionally as well as physically during this process. Having an occasional bad day is normal, being in a bad mood constantly because you're on a diet and feeling "deprived" or your blood sugar is too low, not a good thing. Just, haha, food for thought...

2 in 22

That's right, I jogged 2 miles this evening in 22 minutes. For me, at my current fitness level, that's great! Ultimately I want to be able to get under a 10 minute mile, but we have a ways to go yet. That's okay though. What's important is that I'm making progress. Next week I'm shooting for 3 miles. The 5K I want to run is creeping up fast. I've still got 3 weeks, but that will be over before I know it. The last couple days have been a little rough food-wise, but I made better choices than I would have in the past, though I did indulge in 2 pieces of pie today...oops! Therefore, I went for a run :P See, choices- eat the extra piece, go for a run. All I have to say is, it was worth it! And, that's a good lesson to learn. It's ok to splurge, as long as you are willing to pay the piper. Tomorrow is a new day also, and Dylan goes back to work. I have the menu planned out for the week, my grocery shopping is done...I'm ok. I'm not going into a downhill slide. Right back on track tomorrow. This is not something I've been able to do in the past. It's either been all or nothing, I'm dieting or gorging. Balance is something I'm really striving for this time around, and so far I'm doing well! Go me!

Kinda a Blah week...

This week has been up and down. I have energy then I'm exhausted...etc, etc, I could go on and on. At the moment, I'm soooo tired. There are a million things that I should be doing, but I can't seem to muster the energy to get them done. Yesterday all I wanted to do was eat. I was hungry all day long and was craving junk food. Luckily I was able to control myself- mostly. I did eat some "junk" but I figured it into my daily points, so I was fine. I went walking last night and worked out too. I fell on my ass doing yoga and gave myself a nice bruise, that was fun! But, I lost a couple more pounds...yipee. And, I cannot seem to put together a cohesive post this time...sorry for the ramblings. I'm hoping to have a great Memorial Day weekend. OK, gotta snap outta this fuzzy brain syndrome.......

Workout Challenges

I know I said I was going to post challenges last week, but, as you may have read in my prior post, I was sick. Didn't get around to it, sorry. Anyhow, if you are interested I pulled 2 exercises out of my Biggest Loser book- plus pictures. Nothing like a little visual aide =)
I am also incorporating yoga and pilates back into my weekly routine as I found them to be the most beneficial and enjoyable for myself and toning my body. So, my routine this week will be walking a few times (at least 3 ), Curves x3, and pilates & yoga x3. These exercises should be performed at least 3 times this week. You could even do them during commercial breaks!

The Push Out
Do 15 reps alternating legs, 3 sets. Start with both knees bent at a 90* angle, push one leg out and then pull back in, switch legs. This is meant to be done SLOWLY, with control. Make sure you keep your foot flexed.

Reverse Crunch
Bend knees to a 90* angle. Bring knees toward your chin, lifting bum off the floor. Do 3 sets of 15.

Have a great week! Pump it up!
