Drop the CRAB...

We've all experienced those crabby days. When the kids just get on your last nerve and nothing hubby can say or do is right. Me, I find I'm at my crabbiest when I'm dieting or dealing with PMS. It finally hit me though that I need to make a concerted effort to drop the attitude. Dieting so I can lose weight should be a good thing, should make me feel happy and powerful and in control. Which, for the most part, it does. I'm feeling really good about the progress I'm making, my choices, my physical advancements. I just need to rein in the crabby momma that rears her ugly head from time to time...or maybe feed the crabby momma a healthy snack.
The point I'm trying to make, I need to evaluate myself emotionally as well as physically during this process. Having an occasional bad day is normal, being in a bad mood constantly because you're on a diet and feeling "deprived" or your blood sugar is too low, not a good thing. Just, haha, food for thought...

2 in 22

That's right, I jogged 2 miles this evening in 22 minutes. For me, at my current fitness level, that's great! Ultimately I want to be able to get under a 10 minute mile, but we have a ways to go yet. That's okay though. What's important is that I'm making progress. Next week I'm shooting for 3 miles. The 5K I want to run is creeping up fast. I've still got 3 weeks, but that will be over before I know it. The last couple days have been a little rough food-wise, but I made better choices than I would have in the past, though I did indulge in 2 pieces of pie today...oops! Therefore, I went for a run :P See, choices- eat the extra piece, go for a run. All I have to say is, it was worth it! And, that's a good lesson to learn. It's ok to splurge, as long as you are willing to pay the piper. Tomorrow is a new day also, and Dylan goes back to work. I have the menu planned out for the week, my grocery shopping is done...I'm ok. I'm not going into a downhill slide. Right back on track tomorrow. This is not something I've been able to do in the past. It's either been all or nothing, I'm dieting or gorging. Balance is something I'm really striving for this time around, and so far I'm doing well! Go me!

Kinda a Blah week...

This week has been up and down. I have energy then I'm exhausted...etc, etc, I could go on and on. At the moment, I'm soooo tired. There are a million things that I should be doing, but I can't seem to muster the energy to get them done. Yesterday all I wanted to do was eat. I was hungry all day long and was craving junk food. Luckily I was able to control myself- mostly. I did eat some "junk" but I figured it into my daily points, so I was fine. I went walking last night and worked out too. I fell on my ass doing yoga and gave myself a nice bruise, that was fun! But, I lost a couple more pounds...yipee. And, I cannot seem to put together a cohesive post this time...sorry for the ramblings. I'm hoping to have a great Memorial Day weekend. OK, gotta snap outta this fuzzy brain syndrome.......

Workout Challenges

I know I said I was going to post challenges last week, but, as you may have read in my prior post, I was sick. Didn't get around to it, sorry. Anyhow, if you are interested I pulled 2 exercises out of my Biggest Loser book- plus pictures. Nothing like a little visual aide =)
I am also incorporating yoga and pilates back into my weekly routine as I found them to be the most beneficial and enjoyable for myself and toning my body. So, my routine this week will be walking a few times (at least 3 ), Curves x3, and pilates & yoga x3. These exercises should be performed at least 3 times this week. You could even do them during commercial breaks!

The Push Out
Do 15 reps alternating legs, 3 sets. Start with both knees bent at a 90* angle, push one leg out and then pull back in, switch legs. This is meant to be done SLOWLY, with control. Make sure you keep your foot flexed.

Reverse Crunch
Bend knees to a 90* angle. Bring knees toward your chin, lifting bum off the floor. Do 3 sets of 15.

Have a great week! Pump it up!

Tuesday I got sick. Nothing serious, just a minor cold, but I haven't felt up to exercising for the past 2 days. Today I am feeling better, not great, but better. I think I'm going to drive over to work out this afternoon. I don't want to lose my momentum. I have fallen into that trap before and don't want to go there again. I am making progress and I feel powerful. It is such a great feeling to step on the scale and see a lower number. I am 11 lbs. from pre-prego weight! Of course I wasn't at my ideal weight when I got preggers, but that would be a great milestone to hit. I have had quite a few temptations the past few days and handled them well. We are getting to the tough part when Dylan sabatoges me (unconciously). Yesterday he made cinnamon rolls, I ate half instead of 2 like normal. Then, he's brought home hamburgers twice this week. Monday I ate half of one, Wenesday I ate a just wasn't appetizing. I know that he doesn't do it to be mean, but this always happens. He works hard so he can burn off the extra calories. Me, the junk goes straight to my butt. I am keeping the goal in sight. If I lose 3 more lbs, I'm at my first goal. I am doing this!

Mother's Day

Okay, so I ate too much on Mother's Day. But, I did go out for a walk. Not anything crazy, but I got movin' a little, better than sitting on my butt. Now that the day has come and gone, I can get back to normal routine, especially with my eating. Sundays are very hard for me no matter what with hubby and extra foods around. This will be something I have to work on constantly. Did I mention that I got a very nice book though for Mother's Day? Yup, The Biggest Loser's 30 Day Jump Start. Dylan is really trying to be supportive and helpful- as much as he knows how. I'll let you know what I think of it after I've done more than peek at the pictures.

General Goings-On...

So, this week was a GREAT week! I am very proud of myself. I ate well and exercised, lost 2 more lbs. I managed to get to Curves and work out 4 times. I walked there twice and drove there twice. I took a 4 (ish) mile walk on another day, and jogged about 1 mile on my way home from Curves one of the days. I was able to maintain my milk supply while doing all these things, which I must admit was my first priority. So, I'm excited! My jeans feel nicer now that I don't have to suck in to get them on...what a relief! My total lost at this point is 6 lbs. So, the game plan now is to keep doing what I'm doing. I think 4 days a week toning is great, and 1 day just walking is good. Next week I am aiming to walk over to my workouts 3x instead of just 2, and try and jog home a few times.
I am going to post challenges again next week, so be prepared. Have a great weekend. Eat well and make good choices. It becomes a habit before you know it=) I'll be the first to tell you that losing weight ain't easy, but keep at it, it'll click and happen eventually...

Curves it is...

So, I went for it and joined Curves. So far, I'm happy with my decision. I am sore after working out for two days. Not crazy sore, just achy. Since the point of these workouts is to tone me up, it's doing the job. It's not an intense workout, but you definitely break a sweat. You do have to push yourself to get the workout you want. The machines are resistance based so you have to push them, otherwise if you're lazy, you probably wouldn't see major benefits. We'll see how I feel in a couple weeks, but for now, it's a good investment.

To Curve or not to Curve....

That is the question....Should I join Curves or not? I have been debating whether or not it would be beneficial for me to workout there. The center is 1 mi. away so conceivably I could get a 2 mi walk and a 1/2 hr workout all rolled into one. Will paying for a monthly membership be more motivating? I can try the first month for $30 without signing a contract, so there really isn't a downside. I don't know. Thoughts? Opinions welcome!
